The Houston Texans and the Los Angeles Chargers open the NFL playoffs on Saturday evening (10:30 p.m.). Will the Kansas City Chiefs achieve their third Super Bowl victory in the series or will there be a new champion?

This is how the playoffs work

The NFL is divided into two conferences, each with seven teams qualified for the playoffs. The best team in the conference qualifies directly for the second round. This year the Kansas City Chiefs are in the AFC and the Detroit Lions are in the NFC. The remaining twelve teams play in the so-called wild card round for a place in the next round.

This is what the playoff picture looks like.

The lowest seeded remaining teams then travel to the Chiefs and Lions, while the second and third best teams from the regular season who qualified for the Divisional Round meet.

The Super Bowl will take place on the night of February 10, 2025 in New Orleans. Kickoff will be at approximately 12:30 a.m. Swiss time.

Who will advance to the Super Bowl from the AFC?

Timo: The Buffalo Bills are making it to the Super Bowl for the fifth time. Between 1990 and 1993 they were in the final four times in the series and always left the field as losers. With Josh Allen in top form, Buffalo finally makes it back to the finals.

Niklas: With Derrick Henry behind quarterback Lamar Jackson, Baltimore finally has a super running back who will also cause problems for the Bills and Chiefs. The defense has also gotten better recently.

Timo: The Minnesota Vikings have also been in four Super Bowls so far and have never been able to win. Qualifying for the playoffs is already a sensation. Coach Kevin O’Connell surprisingly coaches the Minnesota Vikings in the final.

Niklas: The running game is back in the NFL. That’s why Philadelphia is making it to the Super Bowl thanks to Saquon Barkley, two super receivers and an excellent defense. The Eagles also benefit from Detroit’s many injuries.

Timo: In a spectacular Super Bowl with a total of over seventy points, the Buffalo Bills narrowly prevail and ensure that there is a table all over the city.

Niklas: Philadelphia’s strong defense will also be crucial in the Super Bowl. In addition, Derrick Henry will not be as efficient in New Orleans as he was in cold Buffalo and Kansas City.

Timo: For the first time since 1991, the Washington Commanders reach the NFC championship game with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Niklas: So far, two-time regular season MVP Lamar Jackson has always disappointed in the playoffs. Now he has taken another step as a passer and is moving into the Super Bowl.

Who will be the disappointment of the playoffs?

Timo: The Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs are both eliminated in the second round despite having a bye in the wild card round.

Niklas: Whether it is really a disappointment in the end can be questioned. After all, the Minnesota Vikings have already exceeded all expectations. But I think their playoffs end in the first game.

Timo: Patrick Mahomes is known for delivering when it matters most. Not this year, however: Mahomes had a catastrophic game in the divisional round and didn’t score a single touchdown in the early exit.

Niklas: For the first time since 1998, a running back becomes Super Bowl MVP!

Timo: Josh Allen will not only be the best player of the regular season and Super Bowl winner, but also MVP of the final. There were at least 16 touchdowns and over 1,200 yards in the entire playoffs.

Niklas: Saquon Barkley continues his fantastic regular season seamlessly and will continue to be the Philadelphia Eagles’ most important player on the way to the title in the playoffs.

And again the beautiful bride of “Swiss Hockey” seduces foreign investors. Now North Americans led by investment banker Justin Fogarty have gotten involved in Ambri. The end of this story is already programmed: you will lose your money.

It’s one of those wonderful stories that soon becomes a myth (fairytale-like, vague, fabulous story): Rich people from America are coming to save our club! The NZZ, which is even more reliable in financial matters than the reporting on Catholicism by l’Osservatore Romano (the Vatican’s daily newspaper), reports from a Canadian investor group led by the investment banker Justin Fogarty based in Zug and Altdorf. 1.5 million would have been promised, 300,000 francs had already been transferred. The details are nebulous. Canadian money for the most important, but actually permanently underfinanced, company in the barren Leventina highlands. No subsidies from Bern either. Almost a Christmas story.
