Hollywood in flames – movie stars lost their homes. Demi Moore won an award

The lifestyle world was torn this week: initial excitement about the “Golden Globes” in LA, about Demi Moore’s triumph, Nicole Kidman’s hair and Zendaya’s ring. Then the horror of the firestorm that destroyed homes from Billy Crystal to Paris Hilton.

Every week we surprise people with their style, their behavior, their social media posts, make us curious or stunned, offer entertainment and the best small talk material. For these stories there is our “Talk of Town” column. The lifestyle personalities of the week – this time with what the fire left behind.

Real estate in flames: Ralph Möller as a frenzied reporter, Billy Crystal mourns his house

Die videosthat Ralph Moeller, ex-bodybuilder, eternal “gladiator” and cigar club buddy of Arnold Schwarzenegger, recorded with his cell phone camera and sent via Instagram are more than shocking. Möller walks through a street filming with his cell phone, the wind is whipping, you think he’s standing in the backdrop of a Roland Emmerich film. Apocalypse now.

All around him, houses destroyed to their foundations, glowing iron, fire engines, smoldering trees. No blockbuster, no civil war zone, just a “normal” street last week in Los Angeles, California. But because the fire raged primarily in the hills of Pacific Palisades and along Malibu’s coastal highway, two neighborhoods where some of Hollywood’s richest and/or most famous people live, the general horror took on many concrete, familiar faces.

Comedian Billy Crystal (“Harry and Sally”), host of the Oscar Gala for many years, lost his home in the green hills of Pacific Palisades, where he had lived for more than 40 years, Paris Hilton’s house It burst into flames on the beach in Malibu, and she posted a video of what was left of it. Mel Gibson (“Lethal Weapon” 1 to Infinite) also lost his home in Malibu, where he lived for 15 years. And the villas of the two veteran stars Anthony Hopkins (“Hannibal Lecter”), 87, and Armin Mueller-Stahl, 94 (who now lives mainly in Germany again) in Pacific Palisades also burned down.

These are just the most prominent victims known about. More than 5,300 properties are said to have burned down in Pacific Palisades alone. After all, a small ray of hope, the two “German houses” in the district, the Thomas Mann House and the Villa Aurora, which once belonged to Lion Feuchtwanger, both of which are now owned by the Federal Republic, either remained completely (Thomas Mann) or “in Share” (Villa Aurora) was spared.

By the way, Paris Hilton posted a comment on her video that couldn’t capture the American “spirit” better. In addition to all the statements about how much the sight and loss of the house had destroyed her heart, she wrote to everyone affected: “We will rebuild, we will heal and we will emerge stronger than before.”

Properties of the Week II: AC/DC house demolished, “Breaking Bad” house is for sale

Not only celebrities in LA are mourning their homes, fans of the Australian hard rock band AC/DC have also lost a place of pilgrimage. The house at 4 Burleigh Street in Sydney where brothers Malcolm and Angus Young formed the band in 1973 has been demolished. Accidentally.

As the Herald Tribune reports, the construction company responsible only found out about the history of the house after it was demolished. Now they want to build a café from the rubble of the house – as a place for the fans. Another pop culture attraction, the house that served as Walter White and his family’s home in Albuquerque in the series “Breaking Bad,” fared better – but for a different reason.

The property at 3828 Piermont Drive Northeast is being offered for $3.995 million. It is a rather unspectacular ranch-style house, built in 1973, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, pool in the paved backyard. The quoted price per square meter is therefore more than $2,000 (the property has 1,900 square meters). It’s 10 times higher than the usual “median price” ($208 per square meter) in the area, according to The New York Times.

Joanne Padilla, 63, who wants to sell the house, told the newspaper who was an icon who could own wool, who could now make this wish come true. But they also indicated that they were annoying the approximately 400 people who on average stand in front of the door every day and take photos. Maybe not so smart to say that as a saleswoman. To protect against parked fans, pylons have already been set up in front of the house.

Golden Globe: Demi Moore wins an acting award, Zendaya a ring and Nicole Kidman has the best hairstyle

It also rarely happens: someone wins a prize and everyone, really everyone, in an industry that is known for its envy, is happy for that person. That’s what happened to Demi Moore these days. She won a Golden Globe, the most prestigious film award in Hollywood after the Oscar, for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical for her role in “The Substance.” In the film she plays an actress who tries by all means possible to stave off old age. In a way, this is Demi Moore’s life theme, and she has had to take a lot of malice in her career for it.

On stage, Demi Moore said in her acceptance speech that she has been doing the job for 45 years and it is the first time she has received an award for her work. Which of course was a lie. Three times already, a long time ago, more precisely in 1997, 1998 and 2004, Moore was awarded the “Golden Raspberry” in the run-up to the Oscars for the most subterranean acting performance of the year.

And even on this night, which was her night, she didn’t escape without being kicked out by the media. The trade magazine “Women’s Wear Daily” put her on the list of the worst dressed people present. Her Armani Rive Gauche gown, with curvy, geometric details and crystals, “wants too much at the same time and therefore falls flat.” Demi Moore will be able to get over it for once.

Nicole Kidman and Zendaya went out that evening impeccably, if pricelessly and yet with the utmost attention. Zendaya because she wore a diamond ring on her left ring finger that her “Spiderman” Tom Holland put on a hat she made herself after Christmas. “Vogue” – all the people magazines went crazy over the news – reported about the ring that it was designed by the London jewelry designer Jessica McCormack. And – whoever that means – instead of the current engagement ring trends that rely on “vertical, oval or marquise diamonds,” Zendaya is wearing a “bezel-set diamond in the East-West style.”

Nicole Kidman didn’t win a Golden Globe for her role in “Babygirl,” but she did win the award for best hairstyle, according to all major industry publications. The Australian actress, who appeared in a silver Balenciaga dress, also wore what Kathy Bates and Margaret Qualley called an “old school ponytail,” a hairstyle with a voluminous ponytail reminiscent of the golden Hollywood era of the 1960s (Grace Kelly etc.) should remember. And once again she managed to ensure that no one, no one – distracted by the tower on her head – asked the question why nothing was moving above her eyes.
