Dexter: The longing for snow

Dexter: The longing for snow

Mr. Morgan’s secret is threatened from many sides. Even though Isaak is in prison, the gangster doesn’t stay idle and to make matters worse, a new character is snooping around. Dexter remains unconcerned – he has other things on his mind…

Dexter Morgan (Michael C Hall) see you after the end of the episode Declaration of war immediately confronted with a whole series of sources of fire: Not only does the imprisoned Isaak Sirko (Ray Stevenson) in his plans for revenge even beyond the prison walls. Also LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) has set out on the trail of the true Bay Harbor Butcheralso known as Dexter, set. Not to be forgotten is the element of the fickle Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), who still has a hard time coming to terms with her brother’s true nature.

Dexter gone astray

But what does Dex do? He is looking for evidence against the innocence of Hannah McKay (Yvonne Strahovski). Dexter will murder. But this time his dreamy smile at the thought of the bad girl seems to speak more than just the joy of a suitable victim.

When Dexter finally paid his Hannah McKay a visit, it wasn’t just her lack of love for animals that came to light. The young woman also gets the opportunity to present herself as a “pretty dirty“to reveal. The fact that deaths from heart failure are piling up around Hannah makes her guilty in Dexter’s eyes, but no less attractive. With such a high level of interpersonal chemistry, Harry’s (James Remar) Objections fall on deaf ears.

Graphically noteworthy is the fact that Hannah’s vegetation-rich environment provides the perfect contrast for the evil that both Dexter and herself embody.

Isaac: not idle

Meanwhile, Isaak once again impressively proves why he is the boss of the… Koshka Brotherhood is. With the help of his threatening authority, he can initially keep the Colombian superiority in prison at bay.

Deb’s new one

Deb gets some time for her amorous private life for the first time after the nerve-wracking trauma that the truth about Dexter means to her. After her relationship with the children’s author Gabriel Bosque in the second season from Dexter can be used with the attractive Sal Price (Santiago Cabrera) another writer piques the policewoman’s interest.

Considering Deb’s recent past, it’s hardly surprising that the police officer initially acts a bit clumsy. Carpenter does a great job of imposing on the strong-headed workhorse Debra the insecurity that Price’s advances trigger in her.

Chess piece Quinn

Quinn, who paled as the action progressed (Desmond Harrington) first has to say goodbye to stripper Nadia (Katia Winters) point out that as a cop you should, if possible, not allow yourself to be bribed by the Ukrainian mafia. With their philosophical appeal (“What good is money when you’re dead?“), the exotic dancer immediately succeeds in turning Quinn into an honorable police officer again.

But Quinn’s foray into incorruptibility only lasts a short time. Because Sirko himself is still in prison, the mafiosi acts through his henchman George Novikov (Jason Gedrick). He gave Quinn the order to make the blood sample disappear that identified Sirko as the murderer of the Colombian gangsters. After a short debate and Nadia as an attractive bargaining chip, Quinn agrees and takes the evidence. Nevertheless, Nadia remains missing.

Batista’s Plan B

Against a sunny beach backdrop, the viewer not only gets an insight into Florida’s swimwear culture, but also learns the true extent of Batistas (David Zayas) work frustration. Deb’s harsh words from the episode Swim deep This seems to have been the last straw that completely undermined Batista’s weakened investigative core.

When the sergeant looks into the camera with his watery eyes, you want to fulfill his wish for a quiet and, above all, peaceful retirement without any hassle. But it is more than questionable whether the exhausted police officer in the world of… Dexter Such an end will be granted.

Batista’s analysis of his unfulfilled life not only creates a touch of melancholy in the cruel reality of the series. She also gets Deb to take a step towards privacy and meet up with Price.

Dex and Deb

Now that the great horror of Dexter’s true identity has not been overcome, but at least has been recognized, there could be a cautious relaxation in the Deb/Dex relationship. But the opposite is the case: in the hesitant calm after the storm, Deb has the freedom to recognize her brother as an emotionally cold monster, even in his everyday facade. Deb cannot cope with his careless approach to human life and death. This growing rejection becomes particularly clear as Debra can no longer tolerate her brother being around her (“Get out of my house!“).

The grand finale

Thanks to Sal Price’s diligent research and a Wikipedia clone, Dexter is able to identify monkshood poison as Hannah’s preferred method of murder.

After there is no longer any doubt about her guilt, Dexter first fulfills his crush’s childhood dream and takes her to a Christmas amusement park. Because it is closed in the summer, it offers the perfect backdrop for the two killers’ first date. As the couple screams hand in hand through the unreal scenery, there is something mechanical about their gang. At this moment, behind the two’s human appearance, the machine-like nature of their psychopathic natures emerges.

On the other hand, the friendly joy Hannah feels at the sight of her first “snow” is anything but robotic. And the fact that Dexter is not free from human impulses is revealed a little later in the nerve-wracking final sequence of the episode. So Hannah initially ends up – as she should – wrapped in plastic on the murder table. But then the lust of the flesh triumphs over the lust of the blood and Dexter frees his victim from her bonds in an energetic gesture.

As Hannah and Dexter indulge in their shared passion, one can’t help but wonder what would have happened if the two of them had invested their ecstatic energy into something else…

Conclusion

The longing for snow seems a bit quieter than the previous episodes. But thanks to Mr. Sirko, you don’t have to wait too long for your first thrill. This can Ray Stevenson As usual, he impresses with his gangster manner and he doesn’t even have to use a screwdriver.

On the other side of power, LaGuerta is expanding her investigation into the topic Bay Harbor Butcher out of. So while she represents another threat to Dexter’s true identity, it’s still nice to see that the policewoman is finally bitten by the hunting bug again. Their interaction with the “Double agent“Deb promising.

After the disappearance of Louis Greene, the investigative writer Sal Price (Santiago Cabrera aka Isaac Mendez Heroes) a new snooper enters the scene. By collecting evidence against Hannah, Price will inevitably make an enemy of Dexter sooner or later. At the same time Price brings in as Debs love interest At least the opportunity to give Dexter’s sister a few more than deserved moments of relaxed togetherness.

By paving the way for Sirko’s return to freedom, Quinn – whose narrative quickly gains something like tension through Katia’s disappearance – guarantees that Dexter strays too far into romantic detours. This is only the sixth episode of Season seven and the real fight hasn’t begun yet…
