After 47 years behind the counter at the DUB-Krug, Heinz Kessler retired. The future of the pub is still uncertain. However, the brewery rules out one thing.

Dortmund – The DUB pitcher in Dortmund Seems like a relic from another time in bar culture. Rustic wooden interior, all memorabilia hang on the walls, including of course BVB-Scarves, a massive counter with an even more massive beer tap and in front of it a few classic bar stools on which your buttocks will hurt after the third pilsner at the latest – and moderate prices for beer and schnapps. But all of this will soon be over. The 74-year-old innkeeper Heinz Kessler said goodbye pension.

“I’ve been doing this for 47 years now.” “At some point you have to stop,” he says in an interview wade. He doesn’t regret this step. “I’m 74 years old,” he says. He put his heart and soul into his knees, and he will soon enjoy his retirement with his heart and soul. In all years as a host not far from Rheinische Straße and Dortmund city center He has probably already seen and experienced everything. Nothing gets this man out of his temper so quickly: “You do it for almost 50 years, then you hand it over and you’re good.”

“At the end of March I will close the DUB-Krug after 47 years and would like to thank all guests, friends and acquaintances for their years of loyalty and wish you all the best,” he himself announced. The landlord has already known for a long time what he will do with his free time. “Vacation, vacation, vacation,” says Kessler. But he seems to be a little worried about his regular customers.

“They don’t even know anymore,” says the innkeeper, “where to go – there are hardly any bars that open as early as we do.” You can die of thirst at Langen Straße 21, near the U-Tower But neither will anyone in the future. The brewery that leases the restaurant will take care of that.

Brewery confirms end of DUB mug – and excludes cocktail bar

“I can confirm to you that our long-time tenant Heinz Kessler (74) is retiring after almost five decades and we wish him the best,” explains Uwe Helmich, Managing Director of the Dortmunder Breweries wade-Demand. The catering industry then wants to put the brewery in new hands. This would involve “currently discussions with various interested parties”.

Rumors have recently been circulating that a cocktail bar will be moving there instead of the pub. Brewery boss Helmich denies this. The decision as to which concept idea to use in the future has not yet been made. He assured: “What we can say, however, is that the DUB-Krug will not become a cocktail bar.”
