New department store opened in Dortmund – with 140 years of history

Woolworth looks back on a 140-year history, founded in Pennsylvania in 1879. The founder Frank Winfield Woolworth was probably the first to present the goods to his customers with a price that they could touch on the counter. The concept worked and after just two decades the family owned 76 department stores. In 1913, Woolworth was considered the largest department store company in the world. For many years, the company headquarters in New York, with its 241 meters, was considered the eighth wonder of the world. Woolworth came to Germany in the Roaring Twenties. However, the German markets are now separated from the parent company.
