Unknown people have once again illegally climbed Cologne Cathedral and published their life-threatening action as a video on social media. The recordings caused mixed reactions online.

A video from Cologne has been causing a stir on social media since Friday: three masked people can be seen apparently illegally climbing the cathedral. The so-called reel has already been viewed 1.7 million times.

To be seen there: unknown people with balaclavas and sunglasses on their faces climbing ladders that had already been installed to one of the two cathedral peaks. Without security and sometimes only holding on with one hand, they position themselves at a daring height in the camera, as the drone footage shows. A dangerous action not suitable for imitation. After all, Cologne Cathedral measures a height of around 157 meters. A fall would probably have been immediately fatal. Especially since the action is not legal.

The video received mixed reactions from users online. While some praised the video and expressed their excitement with appropriate emojis, a majority of viewers were not pleased. “Latest hobby? Climbing around where you have no business being? Only the forbidden gives you a thrill or what?” commented one user. Another criticized the group for climbing a church: “Not a church… Go up any skyscraper or a radio tower, but not a church!”

It is not known exactly when the video was recorded, and the three people have so far remained unidentified. However, images and videos show that this is not the first time they have climbed Cologne Cathedral and that they have also illegally climbed other buildings, such as Notre Dame in Paris.
