Attack on journalists in Narail: No arrests after 11 days

Police have yet to arrest a suspect, 11 days after a local journalist was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in Narail town on December 30 last year.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 pm on Sheikh Russell Bridge when Somoy TV’s Narail district correspondent Syed Sajibur Rahman Sajib was returning to Narail on his motorcycle on Sheikh Russell Bridge.

Speaking to the correspondent, Officer-in-Charge of Narail Sadar Police Station MD Sajedul Islam said that the journalist filed a complaint at the police station yesterday evening (Friday evening) against four to five unidentified people over the attack.

So far there have been no arrests. Efforts are underway to arrest those involved, the OC added.

According to police, locals and policemen took him to Narail Sadar Hospital after the attack. Sajib’s condition was critical as his abdominal injuries were severe. He was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Speaking to The Daily Star, the journalist, who was recently discharged from treatment in Dhaka today, expressed frustration over the delay in filing the case.

“As I was undergoing treatment in Dhaka, it took me a while to come to Narail and file the case. However, it is deeply disappointing that police have not yet identified or arrested any suspects,” he said.

He called on the authorities to quickly arrest the perpetrators and ensure justice.
