Düsseldorf celebrates “Carnival Day” in the old town – Rhineland – News

Düsseldorf’s old town was firmly in the hands of fools on Saturday. The 200th anniversary celebration organized by the Düsseldorf Carneval Committee (CC) was a complete success. “This will be the biggest day of the Düsseldorf carnival outside of Rose Monday in decades“Vice President Stefan Kleinehr had previously expressed his conviction – and he was right.

Many fools had their photos taken with the Hoppeditz

Long before the official start of the festivities at 12:11 p.m., many fools are winding their way through the streets of the old town. Many people had their photos taken with Hoppeditz, who was stationed at the town hall gate. However, this time the symbolic figure of the Düsseldorf carnival came as a mascot.

None other than carnival float builder Jacques Tilly designed the figure for the jester. Daniel Thywissen is inside. A great story for the Meerbuscher: “This is a very special honor for me” he proudly told the WDR.

Garden and music groups paraded through the streets of the old town

The carnival gardens then moved through the old town streets to the market square. And not just from Düsseldorf clubs. There were also numerous guardsmen from other fool strongholds.

The Prinzengarden Rot-Weiss came from Cologne, the Bundesfanfarenkorps Fürth from Neuss and the honor guard of the city of Bonn were also guests. There were also guests from Aachen, Duisburg, Ratingen and even from as far away as Mainz. And of course many, many local jesters – most of them colorful and creatively costumed.

Reception of the guests of honor in the town hall

And while the Jecken people warmed up outside in the icy temperatures, Mayor Stephan Keller and CC President Lothar Hörning received the invited guests of honor inside in the Jan Wellem Hall of the well-tempered town hall.

Lots of live music in the old town bars on the day of the Düsseldorf Carnival

At the same time, so-called bivouacs started in eleven old town bars. There the Jecken were able to continue celebrating with lots of live music. Bands, artists, dance groups, prince couples and youth groups from the clubs performed there for hours.
