Jaguars coaching search update: Day 5

Jaguars coaching search update: Day 5

The search for the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars is officially open.

A day after the Jaguars’ season ended with an overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts, leaving them 4-13 on the season, Jaguars owner Shad Khan made the expected move Head coach Doug Pederson fired.

As the Jaguars search for a new head coach, we will provide updates every day until they find him.

Day 5

Today should be a big day in the Jaguars head coaching search for a few reasons.

For one thing, the Jaguars will speak virtually with both Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson. The Jaguars reportedly met virtually with Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo on Friday. That makes Glenn and Johnson the last interviews the Jaguars can do this week unless they want to talk to a coach who is not currently under contract.

That means the Jaguars can turn their attention to this weekend’s playoff games, where they can get a look at how most of their contenders will fare in the Wild Card round.

You’ll see Liam Coen and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers try to pull off a win over the fast-rising Washington Commanders. In the first playoff game of Coen’s game-winning career, he will go one-on-one with a defensive mind who, in Dan Quinn, led a team to the Super Bowl.

The Jaguars will also see Todd Monken and the Baltimore Ravens try to finally get over the playoff hurdle in an AFC North battle against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Ravens should win, but another tough postseason game on offense wouldn’t do wonders for Monken.

Then there’s Joe Brady and the Buffalo Bills’ offense against one of the best defenses in football, the Denver Broncos. Can Brady lead a strong offense to a big day against a team that may have the Defensive Player of the Year on their team?

Finally, there are two more fights to watch in the NFC: First, Kellen Moore and the Philadelphia Eagles against the Green Bay Packers, where Robert Saleh also trains.

And on Monday, the Jaguars’ Brian Flores will get a chance to earn a playoff win against an elite offensive player and a Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

It’s going to be a big weekend for the Jaguars prospect group. Let’s see how they react.

Be sure to stay tuned to Sports Illustrated for all the latest on the Jacksonville Jaguars as we keep a close eye on which coaches the Jaguars are talking to and what it means for their search for Pederson’s replacement.
