At the start of the Holzminden Jazz Club’s anniversary year, the “Sleepy Town Jazzband” plays

Holzminden. The Holzminden Jazz Club can celebrate its 40th anniversary on November 13, 2025, and so the club’s board of directors has briefly declared the entire year 2025 to be an anniversary year. It starts with a concert by the house band, the “Sleepy Town Jazzband,” on Friday, January 17th, from 8 p.m. This date is a traditional date for the region’s jazz fans.

As always, the musicians of the “Sleepy Town Jazzband” will delight the audience with rousing old-time jazz, played in a typical New Orleans line-up. There is also Dixieland, a good portion of swing and blues, and gospel and folk are not neglected either.

Traditional and tradition: The house band is also cult

Since the band was founded, Roland Berthold has played drums and Wilfried Steinmetz has played clarinet and occasionally alto saxophone. Their colleagues Freddy Ernst (trumpet), Holger Fischer (double bass), Bernd Güthoff (tenor saxophone), Heiner Struck (banjo), Erich Tietzel (trombone) and Wulf Weilinger (banjo) were added over the years due to inevitable line-up changes. New musicians, that also means new ideas, a new sound, new pieces. And that’s a good thing. But old titles are also often brought out, lovingly polished and reinterpreted.

All jazz fans in the region are cordially invited to celebrate the start of the anniversary year and enjoy the performances of the “Sleepy Town Jazzband”. The lively group has recently enriched the Holzminden Christmas market with music twice.

January 17th – a date with tradition

The club always starts on January 17th with the first concert of the new year. This is a tradition because the very first concert took place on January 17th. It is a noble duty and honor for the “Sleepies” to take on this task. It’s fitting that this date falls on a Friday in 2025.
