Which formations appeared at the guard meeting in the Rehnenhof for the 50th birthday of the Gmender Fasnet, what was seen and what conclusions the organizers draw.

Schwäbisch Gmünd. We want to see you dance” – the battle cry that regularly sounds at carnival parades when guard girls appear, remained uncalled on Saturday. 20 gardeners presented their skills in a peace gymnasium full of abseiling for the big anniversary celebration of the Gmender Fasnet. In his greeting, the Gmünder carnival president Eberhard Kucher was “stunned” by the numerous visitors.

The guards from Gmender Fasnet, Waldstetten, Grabbenhausen, Weiler, Wasseralfingen, Untergröningen and Leinzell thrilled the spectators with their skills and their costumes with short skirts with billowing underskirts, glittering, colorful uniforms and tricorn hats on their heads. The dancers’ legs flew up and the splits performed were celebrated with cheers.

The Gmünder Stöpselgarde brought their mascot, the Garde teddy, onto the stage. The choreography of the twelve girls between the ages of six and eight was perfect. The Gmünder dancers were bid farewell from the stage with a triple powerful “Hella, Hella Gamundia”.

It starts at four years old

The newest guard girls from Gmünd, the “Glitzerla”, presented their skills to your knees. The little ones are between four and five years old, explain the peg trainers Nadine and Selina. The “Stöpsel” themselves are enthusiastic about their sport, the movement and dancing are simply great, the girls explain and the trainers add that for some the playground and living room would be the training location. On Saturday the Stöpsel were able to premiere their newly rehearsed dance.

Discipline, hard work and time-consuming training

At the age of nine, the Stöpseln were scheduled to join the Tanzteufelgarde, but almost all of the young dancers had the Prinzengarde as their goal, the trainers explain. This requires a lot of discipline, hard work and time-consuming training. Alia dances with the Gmünder Hoppers. The 14-year-old has been with the Gmender Fasnet guards for ten years; her fellow dancer Emilia, the same age, started with the guard dance when she was five. The costumes, the community and the cheering of the spectators at the parades are always a source of motivation. The girls offer some consolation with a laugh: “You learn the splits in training.”

President Kucher enthusiastically

The guard meeting was accompanied by the Gmünder carnival showwomen Princess Julia I. and Prince Max I. and President Kucher is simply enthusiastic about his carnival troop of around 200 people. Everyone pulled together at the anniversary celebration. The Gmender Fasnet is “a big family”, there is no competition among the Gardeners, everyone is happy and celebrates with each other.
