Guardiola stands: Kyle Walker is gone

Kyle Walker is apparently facing a change.

The 93-time England cap has been linked with a move away from Manchester City for some time. A statement from City manager Pep Guardiola now gives reason to believe that the departure will happen sooner rather than later.

The Spanish star coach justified Walker’s non-nomination in the matchday squad as follows:

“Two days ago Kyle asked that he wanted to look at other options towards the end of his career.” Guardiola then admits that it was not the first time Walker had explored leaving.

“Gave us something we didn’t have”

Two years ago – shortly after Man City won the treble – there was an inquiry from Bayern Munich. “But the offer wasn’t good enough and the club told him how important he was to us,” the coach continued. “He was our right-back who gave us something we didn’t have.”

Now Walker wants to play outside England at the end of his career – for the first time in his playing career. Surprisingly, there is little talk of a move to Saudi Arabia. “And that’s why I prefer to let other players play who are still here with their heads.”
