A man is suspected of supposedly attacked and taking a black swan in Auckland Park in Western Springs.

In a post on Facebook, a photographer says that the man is entering the park from Great North Road and then frozen around a black swan – -like bag.

The photographer said he had returned to the Great North Road entrance in his hand.

The photographer reported the incident to the Ministry of Primary Industry, the Auckland Council, SPCA and Fish and Game.

Black swans are partly protected and can only be hunted according to the regional borders in the season.

The director of the Auckland Council for the municipality of Rachel Kelleher said in a statement: “In no cases, members of the public should harm Black Swan in Park and Reserve Land without the necessary permits.”
