HOUSTON – There is help for the homeless through a program called: The way home.

The Way Home is the local, coordinated homeless response system serving Houston and throughout Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties in Texas. The Way Home includes more than 100 partners, including homeless service agencies, local governments, public housing authorities, the local Veterans Affairs office, and other nonprofit organizations and community stakeholders. The Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County is its lead agency. Find out more at www.thewayhomehouston.org.

If you need recommendations for food, clothing and other services, please call 2-1-1, United Way of Greater Houston’s 24-hour information and referral service.

The first steps to living

The first step to receiving assistance is to receive a coordinated access assessment to determine your eligibility for homeless diversion, permanent housing programs, and/or other supportive services offered by our partners.

Please note:

• Coordinated Access customers must be literally homeless. (This includes people staying in emergency shelters or in a place not intended for human occupancy.)

• Proof of homelessness is required upon program entry.

• Coordinated Access is not a voucher program

• Tue, W: available for walk-ups. Registration begins at 8 a.m

Housing status checks:

• Available through the Coordinated Access office MF from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m
