Mike Holmgren and Chuck Knox have been named semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025

Mike Holmgren and Chuck Knox, members of the Seahawks Ring of Honor, have been named semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025.

Knox and Holmgren are two of the nine semifinalists announced Thursday. They were selected by members of the Coach bBlue Ribbon Committee, which narrowed the original list of 14 candidates to 12 earlier this month and then to nine this week.

In addition to Holmgren and Knox, the semifinalists are Bill Arnsparger, Tom Coughlin, Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer, George Seifert, Mike Shanahan and Clark Shaughnessy.

As head coach of the Packers and Seahawks for a total of 17 seasons, Holmgren compiled a 161-111 regular season record and won 13 more playoff games with 11 losses. This meant his team took part in three Super Bowls and won one in Green Bay. In total, Holmgren led his teams to the playoffs twelve times and won eight division championships. And in both Seattle and Green Bay, he turned struggling franchises into lasting contenders. Before he took over in Green Bay, the Packers had only had five winning seasons since winning the Super Bowl in 1968. He then went to Seattle, where the Seahawks had only made the playoffs four times before his arrival, most recently in 1968. In addition to all the wins and division titles, Holmgren also has a remarkable coaching staff that includes several Super Bowl winners, including Chiefs coach Andy Reid, and he played a big role in developing Hall of Fame quarterbacks Steve Young and Brett Favre, as well as Seahawks Ring of Honor member Matt Hasselbeck.

Knox, who had a 186-147-1 record in 22 seasons, was already an established winner before coming to Seattle, having won five straight NFC West titles with the Rams in the 1970s and emerging as a Rams head coach secured Bills two more playoff spots. In Seattle, Knox led the Seahawks to their first playoff appearance in 1983 and three additional playoff appearances in 1984, 1987 and 1988, with the 1988 team also winning the first division title in franchise history. Knox was a three-time winner of the AP NFL Coach of the Year Award, winning the award with three different teams while also becoming the first coach to lead three different franchises to division titles. He was inducted into the Seahawks Ring of Honor in 2005.

The Blue Ribbon Committee will meet again next month to discuss the semifinalists in detail and select a finalist for the entire selection committee to consider for possible selection in the class of 2025.
