The Andersons, Inc. signs long-term lease for Port Houston

The Andersons have announced an expansion of their operations in Port Houston to increase soybean meal exports for farmers.

Matt Dvorak says there are more export opportunities as domestic demand for pressed soy increases to meet renewable fuel standards.

“We will be expanding the facility’s storage capacity by 22,000 tonnes, which will open up the opportunity for these crushers to better plan their logistics, meaning they can keep their doors open longer and crush for longer,” he says. “This gives farmers a place to transport their grain, especially around harvest time.”

He tells Brownfield that the partnership builds a stronger relationship with farmers.

“What we can do is give people who are building new crushing capacity and have existing crushing capacity a new outlet to get their soybean meal to market,” he says. “Ultimately it filters back upstream in the form of a better supply of soybeans all the way to the farm gate.”

With a storage capacity of 6.3 million bushels, the Houston facility currently supports the export of more than two million tons of grain per year. The expansion includes up to 22,000 tons to store soybean meal for export.

Dvorak says construction on Port Houston is expected to begin in 2025.
