Shooting in Fairfield County investigated by the Sheriff’s Office

Violet Township, October 30, 2024 – The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the 7000 block of Optimara Drive on Oct. 30 around 5 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg and immediately administered first aid.

The victim was then transported by Violet Township Medics to Mount Carmel Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigators traced the source of the shot to a man who was shooting at a target nearby. He was detained for questioning and authorities determined it was an isolated incident and there was no ongoing threat to local residents.

The Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau is currently conducting a thorough investigation and is in discussions with the District Attorney’s Office about possible charges.
