Seattle Mariners promote long-time executive to new role

Seattle Mariners promote long-time executive to new role

The MLB offseason officially began on Thursday after the Los Angeles Dodgers won their eighth World Series title following a 7-6 win over the New York Yankees.

The Seattle Mariners will be working hard this offseason to ensure they represent the American League in the 2025 World Series.

Before the Mariners changed their roster, they announced a move to their top team.

Seattle promoted general manager Trevor Gooby to executive vice president and chief operating officer on Thursday, according to a tweet and subsequent press release shared by the Mariners’ public relations account on “X” (formerly known as Twitter).

Gooby previously served as senior vice president of ballpark events and operations.

Kevin Martinez, president of business operations in Seattle, discussed Gooby’s promotion in an interview Press release:

“Trevor joined our team eight years ago as vice president of ballpark operations and almost immediately took on much greater responsibility. This new role is not only a formal recognition of the broad range of responsibilities he has taken on, but also provides him with the opportunity to make an even greater impact across our company.”

Gooby will continue to “oversee the events and operations of T-Mobile Park,” the release said. He will also take on other tasks.

Those additional roles include “increased integration with the Mariners operations group,” with a focus on the organization’s facilities in Peoria and the Dominican Republic. Gooby will also assist with minor league relations.

Gooby will also oversee projects related to the organization’s outreach efforts in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood, including real estate development. The Mariners’ home stadium, T-Mobile Park, is located in SODO.

This is the second leadership position Seattle has filled through internal promotion. The first was that Martinez was hired as president of business operations a few weeks ago.

Based on the press release, it looks like the organization is looking to streamline communications and tasks between Business and Baseball Operations.

This step may or may not impact the product on the field. But it seems like Seattle is focused on running the organization more smoothly and seamlessly going forward.
