Tim Berne’s abstract charm in Porgy & Bess – Music

The smaller the band, the more careful the musicians have to be and the more carefully they have to listen to each other. In a solo you only have to deal with yourself. Hard enough. In a trio, however, especially when the proportion of improvisation is high, it is important to anticipate, classify and respond appropriately to the inner regulations and impulses of the other person. In the trio, if the musical conversation is successful, the result is a lively music of subjects who, in addition to self-development, also selflessly work on the overall sound and character of the music.
