Action sports instead of ice sports: This is what will happen to the old ice rink in the Olympic Park

Munich – The former Olympic ice rink becomes an action sports center. The city council decided this this week. The ice stadium will house, among other things, a BMX and a skateboard bowl, a half pipe, a mountain bike course and a multi-sports area. You can, for example, play basketball or hold roller skating disco events. With the city council’s decision, the renovation can now begin. The sports department assumes that the hall will go into operation during 2025. The costs for the renovation amount to around 1.6 million euros.

Mayor Verena Dietl (SPD) is pleased that the city can “offer good conditions for action sports all year round, regardless of the weather”.

Everyone should be able to afford entry

The SPD and Greens also announce: The entry prices and usage fees for clubs should be so cheap that everyone can use the offer, regardless of their wallet or age. There will be free sports offerings for schools. But the whole thing is initially just an interim use. The city council still has to decide how the ice rink will be used in the long term
