Broncos QB Bo Nix breaks his silence about winning his third straight ROTW Award

Broncos QB Bo Nix breaks his silence about winning his third straight ROTW Award

Suddenly there is enormous hype and media attention Denver Broncos Rookie quarterback Bo Nix. He went under the radar in the first quarter of the season, but in the next frame he was named Rookie of the Month (October).

Since then, Nix’s stock has steadily risen in NFL media circles and following his win the “Rooke of the Week” award for the third time in a row.perhaps it will reach critical mass. That means he’ll either explode and slowly regress back to a modest rookie average, or he’ll break through this current ceiling and move into another stratosphere.

Even star NFL quarterbacks like Joe Burrow praise Nix and put his name on a par with the likes of Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and even Patrick Mahomes. This is the outside view, including my theory about Nix’s critical mass.

Internally, Nix’s view is pretty short-sighted – he’s solely focused on the next duel, which happens to be one Monday Night Football Throwdown against Jameis Winston and the Cleveland Browns. At the moment, Nix isn’t allowing himself to focus on the praise and accolades.

“Not really. “All I can focus on is the next game (and) the next opponent,” Nix said Friday. “What I can do to win, what I can do to help the team win, and right now it’s all about implementation.”

Nix has been in the spotlight, so to speak, for many years. Although the NFL is a completely different game, this isn’t his first rodeo, having navigated the deep waters of the SEC and PAC-12.

The newcomer is aware that the excitement of the media and fans off the field will always be there. It’s the NFL. But if a quarterback isn’t playing well, that media worm can quickly turn around.

“There will always be things off the field,” Nix said. “It doesn’t matter if you don’t play well. All I’m worried about right now is the next opponent and that’s Cleveland. We just have to play well and continue to do the things we have done in the past a few weeks leading up to this game.”

These are the platitudes of a seasoned veteran, not the traditional newbie. Perhaps that’s due to Nix’s relative age (24) and experience, as he entered the NFL as the most experienced college quarterback ever to emerge from the draft. His 61 career starts remain an NCAA record.

That explains a good deal of Nix’s mature perspective. But the biggest part is simply the child’s character. He eats, sleeps and breathes football, and his IQ for the game is exceptional.

This mental processing, coupled with his arm and his unique athletic abilities, creates a particularly striking quarterback image. Nix may have been the sixth quarterback off the field in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he has worked his way into pole position.

With the final quarter of the season still to play, Nix now has a chance to extend his lead over No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels Washington commandersand win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Daniels has long been the presumptive favorite to win ORoY.

Considering how long the Broncos have been wandering through the quarterback desert, such a success would be like a blessing from football heaven for the fans and the entire team. But for Nix, the bigger accomplishment is leading the Broncos back to the playoffs, where the team hasn’t appeared since winning the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl 50.

Remember Nix’s words to Payton when he got the call on draft day to tell him the Broncos would be selecting him? To Payton, Nix said, “Do you want to win a Super Bowl?”

Such a prospect sounded like a grim possibility that would likely exist for Nix and the Broncos for many years to come. Suddenly it doesn’t seem so far away anymore.

This season, Nix has completed 64.9% of his passes for 2,548 yards and 16 touchdowns with six interceptions. With 300 yards and four additional touchdowns, he is also the Broncos’ second-leading rusher and even scored as a receiver in Baltimore.

Nix’s 21 total touchdowns are the most among NFL rookie quarterbacks. And one of him latest achievements That puts him on par with several quarterbacks who have either been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame or are on their way there. It’s kind of scary.

Nix joined Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks to total 20 or more touchdowns and two or fewer turnovers during a 10-game stretch of a season. Let that sink in.
