Iconic plastic doll – hundreds of Barbies from the world’s largest collection in Aschersleben – culture

Aschersleben (dpa/sa) – Not just a toy, but also a collector’s item: the Aschersleben Municipal Museum in the Salzland district is presenting Barbie dolls from several decades and several special editions in a special exhibition. By March 9, 2025, there will be several hundred copies of what is probably the world’s largest Barbie-Collection of Bettina Dorfmann from Düsseldorf is shown. Die Exhibition is entitled “Between everyday life and glamour. Fashion worlds of the Barbie doll,” as the Aschersleber Kulturanstalt announced.

Dorfmann’s collection includes more than 18,000 long-legged plastic dolls, which experienced regular hype last year with the “Barbie” movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. According to the information, the collector has been working at the Ratingen Toy Museum since 2002. She is an author and runs a Barbie doll clinic, as they say.

Visitors can participate themselves

The first Barbie came onto the market 65 years ago. She is one of the most famous and famous dolls in the world. In Aschersleben, visitors can enrich the special show by bringing their Barbies with them and lending them to the museum for the duration of the exhibition, which will present them in a special display case.
