A woman who was found dead with a man in a unit in a Melbourne beachside suburb has been identified.

The body of 41-year-old Sandra Dobrila was discovered next to a 38-year-old man at a property on James Street in Mordialloc, in the southeast of the city, at around 11am on Thursday.

Police have launched an extensive murder investigation following the grim discovery.

Tributes poured in for Ms Dobrila, with many posting heartfelt messages online on Saturday evening.

A friend of Ms Dobrila shared an emotional message through Australian Femicide Watch, an online site that documents women and children who have lost their lives to violence.

“She had the most beautiful aura around her and spread love and kindness wherever she went,” the person said.

“Sandra was always the first to check on everyone around her and make sure they were OK.

“She was a beautiful, kind soul who didn’t deserve what happened to her.”

Ms Dobrila and the man, believed to be from St Kilda, were found in the open plan kitchen and dining area on the second floor of the property Herald Sun Reports.

Victoria Police said an employee who works with either the man or Ms Dobrila reportedly stopped by the property to conduct a welfare check after they failed to show up for work.

Ms Dobrila, who worked as a customer service manager for cooking oil company EcoFry, is said to have moved into the property about a month ago.

It remains unclear how the couple died. Detective Inspector Scott Dwyer previously revealed the deceased knew each other.

Inspector Dwyer said the nature of the relationship was unclear and the investigation into the incident was “complex”.

He also did not disclose whether police had seized weapons or whether there were signs that weapons may have been used leading up to the incident.

No one has been arrested and Victoria Police had previously said in a statement that investigators were not seeking anyone else in connection with the matter at this time.

Shocked residents previously told the newspaper they rushed outside after hearing someone scream: “Someone has been killed.”

Neighbor Jade Lindsay said she heard a “blood-curdling scream” from a “very distressed” woman who discovered the bodies.

“It was a really agonizing, blood-curdling scream that really frightened me because it lasted so long,” she said

“It’s quite disturbing to hear that… obviously the lady who was screaming was very distressed.”

Ms. Lindsay said a man and a woman, believed to be in their 30s, were walking up and down the sidewalk in front of the house.

She saw the man stop and put his head in his hands.

Witnesses had previously said they saw the couple arguing outside before the tragedy.

Other witnesses said they saw and heard a vehicle driving away from the scene shortly after the couple’s presumed deaths.

Detectives and forensic teams returned to the scene on Friday morning, while an apartment block remained cordoned off.

Forensic investigators and homicide detectives remained on scene for most of Thursday.

The area is home to several luxury properties located just minutes from the popular Mordialloc Beach.
