Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj collects over Tk 8 crore in donations

The Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj counted a whopping Tk 8,21,34,304 from its donation boxes today (November 30).

Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Pagla Mosque Management Committee President Fouzia Khan confirmed the collection after the counting process was completed.

The funds were taken from 11 donation boxes containing 29 bags of cash as well as foreign currency and gold jewelry. The mammoth task of counting was carried out by around 400 volunteers under the supervision of DC Fouzia Khan and Superintendent of Police Hasan Chowdhury.

The Pagla Mosque was consistently witnessed by the faithful’s generosity. On August 17, the donation boxes collected Tk 7 crore 22 lakh 13 thousand and 46, highlighting the continued trust and faith that people have in the institution.

DC Fouzia Khan noted that the funds would be used for the maintenance of the mosque and a wide range of charitable initiatives. The money will support mosques, madrasas, orphanages and various social welfare programs in the district, she said, emphasizing the community-oriented mission of the donations.

The Pagla Mosque, believed to have been built over 500 years ago, is of great historical and cultural importance. According to local history, it was built during the era of Dewan Jilkadar Khan, a loyal follower of the famous zamindar Isa Khan. The mosque’s name, ‘Pagla’, derives from Jilkadar Khan’s reputation for his intense devotion and riverside prayers, which made him popular in the community.
