Training: Be well prepared for the job at the Pinzgau training hotel

The Lehrhotel Zell am See recently opened its doors to welcome anyone interested in working in the catering and hotel industry to a job fair. My district was there and saw what the process was like and spoke to Hermann Unterberger from AMS Zell am See about the teaching hotel and the job market in Pinzgau.

ZELL AM SEE. A job fair for those interested in working in the catering and hotel industry in Pinzgau was recently held at the teaching hotel in Zell am See. This is not a normal job fair where a wide variety of companies present themselves to potential employees, but direct interviews were conducted with the candidates. MeinBezirk was on site and saw how these job interviews work and talked to Hermann Unterberger, deputy head of the AMS Zell am See, about what is behind the teaching hotel and what the current situation on the job market looks like.

The high demand makes it possible

“Last year we started with the teaching hotel – due to the high demand and the good feedback from local entrepreneurs, we decided to organize a job fair again this year and open the teaching hotel. “The need is absolutely there.” “We see in urban centers like Vienna that many people can imagine working in the gastronomic sector in western Austria,” explained Hermann Unterberger in an interview with editor Sarah Braun.

Did you know that there is a teaching hotel in Pinzgau?

But as MeinBezirk learned, not everyone who wants to can take part in the job fair in the teaching hotel. The AMS Salzburg and Vienna hold so-called “preliminary discussions” with interested parties in advance – here, according to Unterberger, they find out who is seriously interested in a career in the catering and hotel industry, and they then have the opportunity to apply at the job fair in the teaching hotel to local catering establishments in the form of an interview.

“The entrepreneurs from the region are here to have good conversations and at the same time can decide whether someone fits into their team or not. Individual conversations make it very easy to determine whether someone will be offered an employment contract or not,” said Hermann Unterberger. Applicants have the opportunity to choose between floor, service and kitchen – in one of these areas they will then be optimally prepared for their future professional field in the training hotel. According to Hermann Unterberger, 28 people are currently being trained in the training hotel – seven on the floor, eleven in service and ten in the kitchen.

“Many who have worked in the region for a winter season like it so much that they want to stay and work here for a longer period of time,” said Hermann Unterberger.

Recruitment within the EU

When asked about the current situation on the labor market, Unterberger described that the AMS had reported many vacancies in the catering sector. According to the labor market expert, these vacancies cannot be covered locally. “For the tourism regions, this means that they should orientate themselves in the EU area. The AMS supports this with EURES (European Employment Service). Third-country nationals need an employment permit for seasonal work, which can only be issued after a stricter labor market check and if a free quota place is available,” emphasized Hermann Unterberger at the end of the conversation.
