Bridgnorth traders reject business cooperation plan in vote

The majority of businesses in a Shropshire town have rejected a plan that those behind it claim would help them work more closely together.

The team behind the Bridgnorth Business Improvement District (BID) plan said it could raise £1 million for the town within five years.

But during a month-long vote that ended Thursday, 67 merchants in the proposed BID area voted against the plan and 39 were in favor.

Some businesses previously told the BBC that they did not want to pay into such a scheme during a cost of living crisis and that they felt it would double the responsibilities of local authorities.
