I walk alone, sleep around and love SA designs

Over the years I have had some very remote and difficult adventures. In 2019 I traveled to Sierra Leone to see Dr. To document Jane Goodall’s return to the country to celebrate the chimpanzee’s designation as the national animal. Our shoot was fraught with all the foreseeable challenges (lack of power, food poisoning, missed water taxi to the airport because I was held at gunpoint). But after all the people of Sierra Leone have overcome recently – extreme poverty, civil war, poaching, mudslides, Ebola, COVID-19 – they are so happy, so welcoming and forward-looking. I couldn’t help but be motivated to share their stories with the world.

My favorite national player city is Cape Town. It’s as if the prime areas of Los Angeles and San Francisco are having an affair with South Africa and their favorite child is Cape Town. I’ve been thrilled since my first visit. From creative to affordable, everything is there. The city has world-class restaurants and hotels, wineries in every direction, penguins, great white sharks (when the orcas aren’t around), people from all over the world who call it home, art, design, fashion, music, a profound one Rich city African history, killer sunrises and sunsets and heck you can be up and down Lion’s Head and at your desk by 9am.

In 2012 I left my Corporate career in NYC and booked a one-way ticket to Africa. I spent more than three months immersing myself in seven African countries and I absolutely loved it. Traveling alone forces you to be more curious and open-minded and also makes you more approachable. I’ve had so many life-changing experiences because I just said yes to someone I met while traveling. The only things I truly regret in life are the things I didn’t try.
